Squiers Residence - Mt Vernon, Iowa

This was a test study for a personal home on a wooded lot overlooking the local golf course.

 

The buildable area of the 3 acre site was restricted by several factors; the steeply sloped hill to the NE was covered by old growth hickory trees, below which ran a creek and flood plain and an existing driveway to the South.  This left a long narrow area to situate the house.  As a result the house became a series of discreet uses stacked one after another, all with views toward the back. 

 

The main house and a garage are separated by the breezeway connector facing the main drive which creates a screen for the outdoor patio facing the golf course and the timber to the Northeast.
